Introduction

I wasn’t expecting to see this, but Ulforce Soul shared the Series Composition documentation from Episodes 34+ and the Elements documentation of Digimon Adventure 02. According to him, those notes started to be shared on a certain Japanese website, so all he did was translate them on Weibo, although he did link to the photos of the document.

So, what are the documents? The first one, as the name implies, has notes that were used to plan the episodes of the series themselves, so they include key points of things that need to happen in each episode and are given to the specific episode writers to write the script. Episodes 34 up to 38 (The names of the episodes are different) are given specific details of them, but all the major points after that are gathered in a single list of “Episode 39~”.

The second document is divided into two parts. The first is a list of “mostly definitive elements”. Here are the general elements of the worldview, such as the perception of Digimon and the Digital World among humans, and major keywords, some of which are explained in great detail. As the name implies, those elements were basically already decided and weren’t changed that much by the end.

The second is “Elements that must be discussed in the future”, which lists various ideas and elements that they were thinking about at the time but were not finished. Some of them were used without major changes, and some were just never used.

All I’m doing here is translating the material again to English so more fans can learn about it. As Ulforce Soul said, there has been no official confirmation that the material is real, so take anything from here with a grain of salt.

  • Since Black War Greymon left, Qinglongmon’s seal was broken.
  • The weakened Qinglongmon is revived by Takeru’s hope and Hikari’s light.
  • When they returned to the Real World with the thought that the crisis in the Digital World had been avoided, they found that a Dark Tower had been built in Odaia.

Episode 39~

  • The memory of the “Dark Seeds” buried in Ken’s body awakens.
  • Daisuke’s older sister, Jun, was among the children brainwashed by Mummymon.
  • Daisuke desperately tries to rescue his sister. Although he always says bad things about her, he actually loves her.
  • Paildramon becomes Imperialdramon to rescue Jun.
  • Mummymon is looking for the “Dark Seed”. Plant “Dark Seeds” in a large number of children, increase the number of children of darkness, and unify the Real World and the Digital World into a World of Darkness (Idea of the Mastermind).
  • “I’m his target” Ken, who has “Dark Seeds” in his body, asks to exchange himself to free Jun.
  • Ken fell into the enemy’s hands. The “Dark Seed” was copied and planted into the children. Daisuke and others take action to rescue Ken. Iori and Takeru’s resentment towards Ken disappeared.
  • The true identity of the man (Mastermind) who manipulated Mummymon behind the scenes is revealed.
  • The mastermind character is a mediocre computer programmer, Yukio Oikawa.
  • However, it’s actually Vamdemon’s Will parasitizing from within his body.
  • 3 years ago during Vamdemon’s attack, Oikawa was infected with the particles of the dying Vamdemon.
  • Oikawa’s body was taken over by Vamdemon, and he sent emails to Ken, created Archnemon and Mummymon, and sent the Frost of Darkness to Qinglongmon.
  • Eventually, from inside Oikawa’s body appears Black Vamdemon.
  • Unifying the Real World and the Digital World into a world of darkness is what Vamdemon was trying to do.
  • The stage shifts to Hikarigaoka for a big decisive battle.
  • Taichi and the other previous Chosen Children, alongside Michael from America, come to help. (Wallace and Ryo too?)
  • When Imperialdramon is in a pinch, Omegamon will appear!
  • Imperialdramon & Omegamon VS Black Vamdemon!
  • In the end, Black Vamdemon is defeated. Oikawa is rescued. And then, the grand finale.

Mostly definitive elements

Awareness of the “Odaiba destruction incident” from three years ago

  1. People of Odaiba
The entire Odaiba area was suddenly enveloped in a mysterious fog, and they realized that monsters were attacking them. However, they were immediately taken to Big Sight and forced to sleep, so their memories are a bit hazy. The following phenomenon, in which the sky was covered with upside-down land, was understood as a “strange phenomenon” that could not be explained; on Earth, it only lasted one night (several hours). They don’t know that the monster that appears is a Digimon or that the upside-down continent is the Digital World.
  2. People in Japan and around the world
Odaiba was enveloped in a thick fog during the Odaiba attack, so it is unclear what happened in the fog. There weren’t any video or audio records of the incident; information is only available from eyewitness testimony from Odaika’s residents after the incident. However, after that, Digimon appeared from the Digital World in the sky, and events all over the world have been witnessed. There was a brief uproar over the appearance of mysterious monsters that crystallized everything they touched, but they disappeared within a few hours, and this is now recognized as a “strange incident.” Due to this uproar, the incident in Odaiba was obscured. People in the world don’t know about the existence of Digimon and the Digital World. However, some people in Japan and other parts of the world (military, scientists, etc.) may be aware of the existence of the Digital World and may be investigating and researching it in secret.
  3. Parents of the previous children
    Yamato’s father
… One of the adults who knows the most about Digimon and the Digital World. He played an active role during the incident, and it seems that he has heard various stories from Yamato and Takeru since then. As a reporter, he is interested, but he doesn’t want to reveal it to the public out of concern for his children.
Takeru’s mother… She knows about the existence of Digimon. Since her occupation is as a non-fiction writer, she continues researching regardless of whether or not she will make it public. She moved to Odaiba because it was convenient for interviewing. This is because she cannot say that she understands everything just by talking with Takeru and Patamon.
Taichi’s parents… They, of course, remember what happened three years ago, but in the Yagami house, talking about Digimon and the Digital World is taboo. That’s why Taichi and Hikari never talk to their parents about it. They think Tailmon is a stuffed animal. By the way, the cat Miiko knows that Tailmon is a Digimon (or at least not a normal creature). Miiko may be already dead…
Koushiro’s parents… They have a pretty accurate understanding of Digimon and the Digital World, and accept Tentomon’s existence. His mother fainted when she first heard Tentomon speak, but she now calls him “Tento-san”. Now that “Tento-san” comes to their house and Koushiro has become brighter and more active, are they happier? Once in a while, Tentomon might eat dinner with the family. However, Koushiro doesn’t want his parents to intervene too much in the Digital World, so he would like him to leave them alone if possible.
Sora’s mother… Since she calls Piyomon “Piyo-san as soon as she meets her, she may be the most adaptable. After that, her interactions with Digimon are on the same level as the Izumi family.
Sora’s father… Professor of cultural anthropology at a university in Tokyo. However, he is often in the countryside doing fieldwork. He is currently in Kyoto and appears in episode 33.
Jo’s older brother (Shin Nii-san)… After Yamato’s father, would he be the adult who most calmly reacted to the incident from three years ago? Three years later he is now working as an intern at a large hospital. By the way, Jo’s parents don’t know about Digimon. Their other brother is at a university in Kyoto.
Mimi’s parents… They know about the incident that happened three years ago and the Digimon, but they don’t seem surprised at all and are easy-going.
  • Daisuke’s family doesn’t know anything about Digimon and the Digital World. They remember the Odaiba attack incident. If someone talks about it, it would be Daisuke’s older sister Jun, but only to the extent of it being “somewhat suspicious”.
Miyako wasn’t in Odaiba in 1999, so she didn’t know about it directly, but one of her older sisters was there during the Apocalymon incident, and also later when Miyako sent an email.
Iori’s family remembers two giant creatures (Garudamon and Altur Kabuterimon) saving them from a plane crash.

The “Chosen Children” around the world

Three years ago, when Digimon appeared all over the world, just like Michael saw Gorimon in New York, there must have been children who saw Airdramon in Moscow and children who saw Tyranomon in Paris.
There were also countries not depicted in the show, such as China, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, etc. There were children all over the world who witnessed Digimon.
Later, “Chosen Children” other than Michael were born.
If it were during 2000, it would be at the same time as Ryo and Ken.
If it were 2001, they would have gone to the Digital World with Michael.
In fact, other children who were seen in Hikarigaoka in 1995 also turned into other Chosen Children.
In 1995, there were two children, and the number doubled each year.
In 2002, the total number was 256.
In the last battle, “chosen children” from the entire world help Daisuke and his friends who are in a pinch.

About D-3

In the beginning, Ken’s Digivice changed to D3 in the Ocean of Darkness. To compete with Ken, who gained the power of darkness and became the Digimon Kaiser, the Digital World’s “Will of Harmony” (An existence who ranks higher than even the Four Holy Beasts. Is it the same Will took over Hikari’s body during the first series?) prepared a Digivice (D3) of the same shape.
When Taichi came in front of the Digimental in episode 1, he thought that three people, Koushiro, Takeru, and Hikari, were coming to help him. In response to the number 3, three Digimentals were sent, but when they came out in the Real World, the three of them already had Digivices. So, they suddenly changed plans and flew to Daisuke, Miyako, and Iori, who were closest to them at the time and had the qualifications to become Chosen Children.
As for Takeru and Hikari, because their Crests (hope, light) were unique and their partner Digimon were types that had the possibility to Armor Evolve, it was decided to change their Digivices to D3 in a hurry.

About Digimentals

Digimentals were originally items that existed in the Ancient Digital World to power up Digimon, but their power was lost over the years, and the number of Digimon that could Armor Evolve was limited.
When Digimon Kaiser was born, that is, when Digimon were no longer able to evolve normally, the “Will of Harmony” removed the seal of the Digimental and Digimon that could evolve into armor as a means of countering Kaiser. All that was left was to find the right partner.
However, the power of the Crest is required to reactivate the Digimental, which lost its power in ancient times. In episode 1, when Taichi came to the Digital World in response to Agumon’s call, the Digital Gate was created by the “Will of Harmony,” as it required someone with the power of a crest. Since Taichi came, the Digimental of “Courage” appeared, and the V-mon that had been sealed beneath it appeared.
Koushiro and Sora were the next ones to appear, and so the Digimentals of “Love” and “Knowledge” also appeared. The same happened for Hikari and Takeru.
The ancient Armor Evolution required that the Digimental be retained in its original form, but now that they know that it can be stored as data in the D-terminal, it was determined that they could use data of two attributes.

About the Holy Ring

The Holy Ring that Tailmon lost during the first episode was actually recovered by the Kaiser and kept in its moving fortress. He used the power of the Holy Ring to keep the power of darkness under control. He thought that power would make it possible to put the moving power of the moving fortress to practical use. The Crest of Kindness was simply converting the power of darkness into moving energy. During episodes 26 and 27, when Daisuke, Ken, and the others are in a pinch near the moving fortress, the Holy Ring transforms into a Scan Ring, allowing Jogress Evolution.
That was also caused by the “Will of Harmony”. In the first place, was the reason why Ken and Daisuke gathered together again at the moving fortress because of the guidance of the “Will of Harmony”?

Elements to be discussed

After the Digimon Kaiser was defeated, what were Taichi and Agumon, and the others doing?

They were destroying Dark Towers and rebuilding towns in places different from the ones Daisuke and his friends were at. After Archnemon and Mummymon appear, they might enter into conflict with Dark Tower Digimon.
However, after the Ultimate Body Black War Greymon appeared, they had no chance to win since they couldn’t even evolve to Perfect Level, so they kept destroying Dark Towers to not let a second or third Black War Greymon be created. At the same time, they also provide logistical support such as reconnaissance and information gathering (mainly Tentomon).
Daisuke and his friend learn from Tentomon’s information as he is doing reconnaissance that a Phase Distortion occurs after Black War Greymon passes by somewhere, and if left unchecked, the balance of the Digital World will gradually collapse.
Agumon, who is (maybe) personally angry with Black War Greymon, may be secretly training to be able to Warp Evolve.
Gabumon, who could also Warp Evolve, may also be undergoing special training together.
(During the 4th cour, if Omegamon appears, will this special training be successful and allow them to evolve into War Greymon and Metal Gaurumon?)
Summarizing
Koushiro & Tentomon → Reconnaissance and information gathering.
Jo & Gomamon, Sora & Biyomon, Mimi & Palmon → Destruction of the Dark Towers.
Taichi & Agumon, Yamato & Gabumon → Warp Evolution Training?

About Black War Greymon

Black War Greymon wanders the Digital World in search of strong guys. However, he was actually drawn to certain places without even realizing it. It was one of the five shrines (provisional) that protected the Qinglongmon area. Each area of the Four Holy Beasts that protect the Digital World is protected by five shrines. The five shrines overlook form the shape of a five-pointed star.
Black War Greymon approaches the shrine and destroys it. If the shrines are destroyed, Qinglongmon’s power will further weaken and the Phase Shift will become more severe. Mummymon and Archnemon are happy, but at the same time, they are also worried that Black War Greymon, who does not listen to their orders, will leave for a different layer. If that happens, the effect of the “Frost of Darkness” that seals Qinglongmon will be lost.
Black War Greymon doesn’t know about this. Black War Greymon loses sight of the meaning of his existence and begins to destroy the Dark Towers as well, probably due to his hatred of his own race. Mummymon and Archnemon are at the mercy of Black War Greymon and are in a state of joy and despair.
After learning from Ken, Hikari, and Miyako’s experiences in episode 31, and from Tentomon’s information that Black War Greymon is the cause of the Phase Shift, Daisuke and his friends challenge Black War Greymon, even though they are worried about the outcome (Situations where every moment counts, such as arriving at a site where a shrine is being destroyed).

Ken’s Timelimit

After Ken returned to the real world, he frequently went to the Digital World to atone for his time as the Kaiser.
However, the frequent back and forth between the Real World and the Digital World was putting a strain on Ken’s body, which had only been in the digital world for long periods of time.
And finally, there is a limit to the number of times you can go to the Digital World. If you exceed that limit, you’ll never be able to go to the Digital World again, you’ll never be able to return to the Real World, or you’ll die…?

  • Note: The line “or will he die” is crossed out on the page, so even when the concept was still being discussed, that specific idea was already being disregarded.

About Gennai

When we have to explain various things, can’t we use Gennai?
However, Gennai himself wouldn’t have to appear. Couldn’t Gennai convey messages to Daisuke and the others through letters he would leave (or even holograms)?
Details about Gennai, his true identity, and current circumstances will be discussed on another occasion.
